Build sequence

Nothing is converted all at once. High-impact areas are built and verified first.

  1. STEP 01

    Digitise drawings and fix the revision rule

    Move drawings to digital and, first, decide what counts as the valid revision. Without that rule, digitising leaves the superseded-drawing problem in place.

  2. STEP 02

    Place terminals on the floor

    Put a tablet or kiosk at the work position showing only the drawing and instruction for that operation. If it takes several steps to find, it will not be used.

  3. STEP 03

    Collect work history

    Capture operation completion at the point of work to aggregate per-unit progress live. Reducing the entry burden is the whole of this step.

  4. STEP 04

    Connect traceability

    Attach part identity and inspection results to the unit so the history a buyer asks for can be produced immediately.

Do we have to convert thousands of drawings at once?

No. The usual approach converts units currently in production and items coming up, adding historical drawings as needed. Requiring full conversion up front only delays the start.

Do engineering changes reach the floor automatically?

With a valid-revision rule in place, floor terminals show only the current revision. The biggest change is that nobody has to confirm old copies were recalled.

How do we handle buyer audits?

Because operation completion and inspection results attach to unit and part identity, the history for that unit is produced by query rather than by search.

Will operators actually use tablets?

With entry fields kept minimal and only the relevant operation on screen, the burden is small. The design goal is not adding decisions for the operator to make.

Can it connect to our existing ERP or PDM?

Yes. Items and BOMs come from ERP, drawing revisions from the engineering system, and MES owns execution history — roles divided rather than duplicated.
